Light in Motion
The way that the light illuminates the scene makes the photo very strong. This was taken using a 10 second exposure facing a car going up my street. The beam of light is almost magical and makes you look twice. There is a big contrast between betweenthe dark porch and the extremely bright beam of light. I used two boxes to stabilize the camera, because i didn't have a tripod.
Fire in the Sky
This Photo is a great view of a sunset. There is a wonderful contrast between the sillouette of the trees and the red sunset. The camera was set on a low aperture to capture as much light as possible. The tree creates a great example of leading lines with the intertwining of the branches. I took this photo in the summer right outside my house.
Endless Mirrors
This Photo is a great representation of repitition of pattern. The windows seem to go up endlessly into the sky. The hundreds of windows in the building create one big mirror that reflects the sky perfectly. It is very strong because of the uniform spacing of the windows and the cloud reflected beautifully in them. This building was spotted in Providence.
Wedding Afternoon
I set up this picture. I took the flowers from my sisters wedding and placed them on the bed in a vase. Then, I closed the door almost all the way to create the effect of creeping in. I timed it right so that the sunset would create a wonderful shadow through the vase. This photo shows great shadows as well as line and shape. The shaow of the vase and flowers is very interesting.
Beauty in the Graveyard
As you can figure out from the title, this photo was taken in a graveyard near my house. It shows a great depth of field with the gravestones a little blurry and the tree branch perfectly in focus. I focused in on the branch and the sunset created just enough light to make a "vein-like" sillouette. The branch creates leading lines in every direction as well. This photo ws taken with me laying down on a tomb.
Durga
I took this photo during the painting with light project. I took it by myself using a 30 second shutter speed. I would flash the light on my arm in different places. Then, i used a red light. I don't know why, but I like the effect. I kept a straight face to add an ominous, creepy effect as well. To me this is a strong photo because of the way the arms came out and seem to actually be attached to me. The aperture was set on a very low setting to capture as much light as possible.
